Welcome! If you just brought home a brand new VIZIO TV, you are probably excited to start watching your favorite shows and movies. The good news is that setting up a VIZIO TV is incredibly easy.
In this guide, we will walk you through the entire process from unboxing to streaming. Let’s get started!
Your new VIZIO TV and its power cable.
The VIZIO remote control (with batteries).
Your home Wi-Fi network name and password.
A smartphone or computer (just in case).
First, carefully take your TV out of the box. Attach the stand legs or mount it to your wall using a bracket. Once your TV is safely in place, plug the power cable into the back of the TV and the other end into a wall outlet.
Point your VIZIO remote at the TV and press the Power button. When the TV turns on, it will usually ask you to pair the remote. Just follow the on-screen instructions (usually, you just need to hold down a couple of buttons for a few seconds).
Once the remote is working, the TV will ask you to select your preferred language (like English, Spanish, or French) and your country or region. Use the arrow keys on your remote to select and press OK.
This is the most important step for a Smart TV!
Your TV will show a list of available Wi-Fi networks.
Select your home network.
Type in your Wi-Fi password using the on-screen keyboard.
Pro Tip: If your router is right next to the TV, you can use an Ethernet cable for a faster, more stable internet connection instead of Wi-Fi.
After connecting to the internet, your VIZIO TV will automatically check for software updates. Let it download and install. Do not turn off your TV during this process. It might restart a few times, which is completely normal.
To get the most out of your Smart TV, you will need to register it. The TV will display a code and ask you to create or log into a VIZIO account.
For the easiest experience, grab your smartphone or laptop and go to vizio.com/setup. By visiting vizio.com/setup, you can quickly register your device, link your streaming apps, and manage your account details without having to type everything out on your TV remote!
If you are using an antenna or direct cable connection (without a cable box), the TV will ask to scan for local channels. If you only use streaming apps like Netflix, YouTube, or Hulu, you can skip this step.
Many users search for vizio.com/setup when they want to link their TV to their account. VIZIO’s official account-linking flow uses a code shown on the TV. You sign in to your VIZIO account, choose Add TV, then enter the 6-digit code or scan the QR code to finish linking. The official validation page also accepts the 6-digit code shown on your TV.
1. Do I have to visit vizio.com/setup to use my TV?
While you can do a basic setup directly on the TV screen, visiting vizio.com/setup on your phone makes it much faster to register your account and type in your details.
2. Why won't my VIZIO TV connect to Wi-Fi?
First, double-check that you entered the correct password (passwords are case-sensitive). If it still won't connect, try restarting your home Wi-Fi router and turning the TV off and back on.
3. How do I add new apps to my VIZIO Smart TV?
Modern VIZIO SmartCast TVs come with the most popular apps already built-in. You don't need to download them manually! Just press the "V" button or the "Home" button on your remote to explore all available apps.
4. My remote isn't working, what should I do?
Make sure the batteries are fresh and inserted correctly. If it still doesn't work, point the remote directly at the bottom right corner of the TV (where the sensor usually is) and make sure nothing is blocking it.
